OS X icons for Windows

Filed under: Freebies around 1:10 am

Here’s 1,000 png icons taken from the Jaguar era Mac. Great for customizing your dock or other desktop items to make them truly lickable.

Uhh.. BTW “Lickable” has been used to describe OS X’s aqua interface since His Steveness (Steve Jobs) used the term in his keynote to the 2000 MacWorld Expo in San Francisco.

This site seriously rips off Apple’s download site and this is awesome. Now I can complete my Windows XP conversion to a Mac OSX layout… I cant wait for the Intel/AMD version of Mac… :-D

Winrar unzipped it to a folder from the context menu just fine for me. Is there any downside to this? Does it mess up anything?

Free Programming Resources

Filed under: Freebies around 8:41 pm

Free Programming Resources is a directory of links to free programmer resources including free programming tutorials, free online programming books, free compilers, free programming tools, free source code, programming libraries, game programming resources, graphics resources and security tools.

It’s kind of funny. I stumbled onto this site through the gmail related link for one of my emails. It’s got tons of free programming books and resources for you programming nuts who enjoy learning for free. Have fun and learn something.. Assembly, ASP, Cold Fusion, C, Flash, Java, lisp, LOGO, Perl, PHP, XML and *many* others. Awesome one stop shopping.

Trying to learn PHP and this site is very useful.

Pamela - Skype On Steroids!

Filed under: Freebies around 7:52 pm

Pamela is a plugin for Skype with ton of great features including: 2-way call recording, create podcasts, email forwarding of voice messages, fully customisable greeting messages, time scheduling function, and more.

10 minutes recording time on the free version? This program totally f-ed up my computer after install I could no longer play any audio source. Maybe I am just an idiot, but the program seems to need more documentation.

The audio is a known Windows limitation unfortunately. Pamela does warn to check settings after install. If your Windows default audio devices are set back to your card manually, Pamela will work.

Anonymous P2P

Filed under: Freebies, Torrentz around 7:49 pm

Links to various P2P program that offer almost complete anonymity. Great for insane underground info and warez.

The main problem I have with “anonymous” p2p it’s kills speeds. You can obscure yourself but you are not anonyms. Not to mention when you obscure yourself like that you sacrifice speed and reliability.

It is possible to get anonymity on the internet. Drive up to somebodies house use their wireless connection for example. You can also basically route all traffic through god knows how many proxy servers, effectively hiding you for law enforcement, especially if you route through somewhere like Russia. Although technically some agencies could track you down it is a costly exercise.

Many wireless routers log MAC addresses for the DHCP server, also in arp cache on all the machines. a MAC is globally unique so it could be used as evidence to confirm that you’re the one who did the deed. They’d still have to catch you first, but that’s not too difficult since most warez kiddies are braggarts. If the Feds can identify the network they came from, they may be able to pull the ISP’s logs/traffic details & eventually line up a list of suspects.

Anonymity is easily possible. Proxy chaining through lists you find on the net though, not good. They just aren’t safe. All you need to do is spoof your mac address, and you’re identified as a whole other computer by the dhcp server. Better yet, spoof someone elses mac, take their ip, now that’s anonymity. Add that to being on someone else’s wifi, and proxy chaining. Hmmmm, doesn’t get more anonymous than that now does it?

I like the idea of onion routers and random servers used on Tor. These programs are nothing like the old days of Kazaa Lite, much more diffucult for the average user. Anyone still using bit torrent?

The 46 Best-ever Freeware Utilities

Filed under: Freebies around 6:58 pm

Here’s a resource to download free utilities. They seem to keep it updated and I agree with most of their choices and use most of them actually.

Only one problem… not all the programs are free. Tis’ lies I say! But theres alot of other great stuff out there: DVD decrypter, Daemon tools, The Gimp, Blender, gaim, and alot more.

filehippo.com

Filed under: Freebies around 6:50 pm

Just came across it about 2 weeks ago or so. It provides you with the simplest method of downloading the newest (or older) versions of the best software at fast speeds.

Maybe i’m paranoid, but there’s something about third party hosting sites that makes me wary. To me its worth the extra time spent googling for the software’s homepage so that i know exactly what i’m getting.

Ok.. I AM paranoid. The MD5 for their version of Spybot matches the one from the Spybot homepage.
