$242 Million Nigerian Spammer Lawsuit

Filed under: Interesting Findings around 11:56 pm

Nigeria jails a woman in the country’s biggest e-mail scam case in history.

WHEEEEHOOOO!!!
** Dances naked around bonfire chanting Hakuma Matata…. **

That beeotch deserves it. What a landmark. Let’s see. She’s one of three people who scammed $242 million dollars. Of her share, she’s returning $48.5 million to the bank. Oh, and she’s paying the government $5 million for some reason that isn’t reported, and then she’s paying a $15k fine. Put it this way, she actually didn’t scam 242 million *dollars*, it’s in local currency of the region, Nairas. The article is a bit misleading about that I think. 242 million Nairas = $1,816,135 and .08 cents USD as of the currency exchange. Still a lot of money for sure however.

For stealing all the money, she gets two and a half years in jail, and even that was backdated to start when she was first taken into custody in January of 2004? Yeah. They’re really cracking down over there in Nigeria.

If anyone is dumb enough to fall for one of these scam emails, they deserve to lose their money. Same goes for spam, if no one was dumb enough to buy anything from it they’d stop sending it.

OS X icons for Windows

Filed under: Freebies around 1:10 am

Here’s 1,000 png icons taken from the Jaguar era Mac. Great for customizing your dock or other desktop items to make them truly lickable.

Uhh.. BTW “Lickable” has been used to describe OS X’s aqua interface since His Steveness (Steve Jobs) used the term in his keynote to the 2000 MacWorld Expo in San Francisco.

This site seriously rips off Apple’s download site and this is awesome. Now I can complete my Windows XP conversion to a Mac OSX layout… I cant wait for the Intel/AMD version of Mac… :-D

Winrar unzipped it to a folder from the context menu just fine for me. Is there any downside to this? Does it mess up anything?

Find out who lives on your street. For free!!

Filed under: Google Maps around 12:59 am

This is a website that in conjunction with google maps allows you to enter in an address to find out the names, adresses and phone numbers of the people who live on that street. Kinda scarey.

And once again google proves how creepy it can be. But this website is only utilizing Google Maps to show the information. Besides all the information that is shown is already publicly available, sometimes in a digital format.

Pretty interesting tool. Like a lot of tech, very cool but can be used for bad things. I’m going to have faith in the whole good over evil thing & hope this stays up. Most (if not all) cities/counties have a web-based interface to check out this information. Usually tax collectors or property appraisers offices. I know something that will make you even more astonished: You can see how much your neighbor’s house is worth, too and how much they paid for it!

Eniro.se has a similar thing in Sweden - just search for your city and street name and you’re get the name, address, number, whatever of all the people living there.

I can see the headlines now - “Google Privacy Suit Settled Out of Court”

On another note, there’s another one on TerraFly. Just for the sake of curiosity, I just punched in the details for Penang. Well, surprisingly, THIS IS WHAT I GOT…. WOW!!

Blogger makes $10,000 in a month from Adsense

Filed under: Google AdSense around 12:06 am

I think the title explains it all. Darren Rowse is pretty lucky. Good for him, even though I have no clue what his blogs are about.

Think of it like this. For every 500 page impressions, the average adsense user is pulling something around 15 to 25 cents. So a site with a daily impression around 5,000 might be pulling something like 2.50. My numbers aren’t scientific, just what I tend to get on average.
